On March 22, 2024, I spoke on a panel at the Virginia Festival of the Book in Charlottesville, Virginia. The panel, “Alternate Appalachias,” was moderated by Jeffrey Dale Lofton and included authors Anya Liftig and Danielle Chapman. I really enjoyed chatting about memoirs with all three of them, and the venue, New Dominion Bookshop, was packed. Afterwards, my husband and I had some tasty Manhattans and barbecue at The Whiskey Jar. A week later, The Daily Progress published an article about the event, “The Holler has Hidden Depths: Appalachian Writers are Telling More Diverse Stories about their Native Mountains.”
